Do you know what projects require permits?  Please review the list below when starting a new project in order to determine whether or not a permit is needed.  If you are planning a project, please contact our Code Enforcement Officer, Technicon Enterprises, Inc. at 610-286-1622 to verify the need for permits.  Borough Council adopted the following permit guide on April 16, 2001.

  • New building construction/additions (building and zoning)
  • Retaining walls over 4 feet (building)
  • Retaining walls less than 4 feet (zoning)
  • Fences (zoning)
  • Demolition
  • Paving of new parking lots/driveways (zoning)
  • Patios without a footer (zoning) 
  • Sidewalks and curb cut
  • Plumbing
  • Sewer Lateral
  • Water Lateral
  • All cuts to increase window/door size (building)
  • Sewage (if applicable)
  • Any other residential space that needs to be constructed including porches, attics, patios with a footer, basements, garages or any type of living area (building and zoning).
  • Replacing windows (No wall cut)
  • Painting
  • Roof Protection (i.e. shingling)
  • Resurfacing driveway
  • Replacing doors
  • Tiling
  • Siding
  • Wall papering
  • Electrical work (if panel box is not relocated), however, proof of an inspection through an inspection agency is required (in residential work, commercial work requires a permit)
  • Interior renovations
  • Partition walls that are not weight bearing (in residential work, commercial work requires a permit)
  • Any other work that may be considered a non-structural ordinary repair
