Street Maintenance, Signs & Markings
The Public Works Department provides roadway maintenance for the streets in the Borough. Maintenance includes cut restoration, stabilization of sink holes, crack sealing, and pot hole repairs. While the Public Works Department is responsible for street maintenance, the Borough contracts out major street restoration projects as needed.

The Public Works Department is also responsible for the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of street name signs, pavement and curb markings, and temporary signs. They also provide barricades for regulatory, warning, special events, and traffic guide purposes.
Stormwater Maintenance
The Public Works Department is responsible for providing a street drainage system to effectively remove storm water runoff from the streets of the Borough. This includes the construction of new inlets and storm sewer pipes, and the cleaning of grates, collection boxes, and storm sewer pipe to ensure proper performance of all storm water facilities.

The staff receives ongoing training to ensure Borough operations minimally impact water quality.

Snow & Ice Control

Each winter season the Public Works Department continues to make every effort to assist vehicular and pedestrian traffic during inclement weather. It is our intention as a Borough to meet the needs of our residents and travelers by providing the safest possible street conditions during snow storm events.

Snow Plowing

Streets will be plowed when the snow accumulation reaches two inches and snow continues to fall. Streets that serve as main arteries are our first priority. Streets feeding the main arteries are second, all other streets are third, with alleys being cleared last. Please avoid unnecessary driving during snow plowing operations. Packed snow, parked, stalled, or stuck vehicles make it more difficult to maneuver equipment and remove snow.

Sidewalks

Property owners are to clear their public sidewalks within twenty-four hours after the snow or ice ceases to fall. It is illegal to throw snow from your sidewalk or driveway into the street. If there is a fire hydrant located on your property, please remove the snow around it. This will assist the Fire Company in case of an emergency.
